Tamla Motown was formed by music legend Berry Gordy in 1965 to release his US soul recordings in the rest of the
world, having set up a series of labels of varying names to service the home market.
Motown is one of the world?s most famous record labels and is synonymous with soul. The period covered between
1965 and 1976 saw music history made by the likes of the Supremes, Four Tops, Temptations, Marvin Gaye and
many more whose releases are covered here.
This book provides a complete discography of Tamla Motown?s UK singles between 1965-76. It also tells the stories
behind them in fascinating detail for the very first time.
Apart from a Motown Reader reprinting articles about the label, published in 2001, the subject has barely been
covered by UK books. Berry Gordy?s autobiography is out of print and much sought after.
